Non-Playable Coin (NPC) Overview

Non-Playable Coin (NPC) is a memecoin for all 8+ billion humans on Earth. Its motto is “I support the current coin.” On June 29, 2023, a snapshot of the total human population was taken for the total supply and NPC was fair launched on Ethereum.

NPC positions itself as the next evolution of memes. It’s both one of the popular memes on the internet—with an immediately recognizable ticker—and has a novel tech stack. Every NPC token can be converted 1:1 to an NFT of an NPC. Non-Playable Coin is the first memecoin-NFT hybrid.

Since launch, so much more has been built. The NPC meme was completely redesigned over 220 traits to choose from, all made from scratch and accessible at app.npc.com. Using the dApp, over 155,000 unique NPC Customs were created by the community and minted on Base. Each NPC Custom symbolically cost 1 NPC to redeem.

To show they’re serious builders, Non-Playable Coin has also built and audited their own token standard (the ERC11) so others can easily deploy memecoin-NFT hybrids. This allows users to launch memecoins backed by any media, like a song, video, or photo. Through this approach, NPC hopes to be one of the leaders of “memecoins 2.0.”

In March 2024, Non-Playable Coin acquired npc.com — further cementing them as the one and only NPC memecoin. Their ultimate goal is to monopolize the NPC meme in every way we can, while also paving new ideas for the memecoin space.

Utility & Proposal

As a memecoin, NPC has no intrinsic promise of utility. However, it can be converted 1:1 into an NFT via our dApp. Think of it like a “memecoin backed by the meme itself.”

NPC is currently multi-chain and is trading on Ethereum, Solana, Base, and BNB Chain. Zetachain can help bridge the gap between these chains.

However, the basic proposal starts with Ethereum and is the following:

  • NPC on Ethereum to be whitelisted on Zetachain.
  • The possibility of deeper liquidity initiatives. This is the first step toward a friendly partnership between two active communities and builders.

This proposal would allow native BTC swaps into NPC on Ethereum which is currently not possible. Zetachain would become a hub for such trades, opening the door to other multi-chain endeavors!

Moreover, this could be a stepping stone to someday using Zetachain as a way to bridge NPC with other networks besides just Ethereum.

Next Steps

A new governance proposal will be created to determine whether or not the network should move ahead with enabling this new asset. Please use this forum for discussion.

Criteria / Compatibility

NPC exists as a standard ERC20 token on Ethereum and meets all requirements including a source of initial liquidity.

It matches all of these qualifications:

  • Must be ERC20 compliant and be regular ERC20.
  • Must not rebase.
  • Must not have transfer fees.
  • Must not be involved in any scams.
  • Must be verified on Etherscan or equivalent explorers on other chain(s).
  • Must have a working product, utility, and an active community/userbase.
  • Must be audited.
  • Should be economically valuable/viable.
  • Should not be ERC777 or equivalent that can execute arbitrary code upon receiving funds.
  • Should have a proven track record without recent security, operational, or implementation issues.
  • Should have a source of initial liquidity.
